** Well, it happened: Kerman improved to 3-0 in the tournament with a 4-2 win over Sierra-Manteca behind Ryan Potter’s five-hitter. Lions ace Carlos Salazar, one of the nation’s top professional prospects, will oppose Clovis ace Jacob Gatewood Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the most anticipated game of the three-day, 34-team tournament.

** Lot of interesting happenings. Garces just beat Laguna Creek-Elk Grove to move to 2-0 in the tournament without having given up a run. Rams will play at Clovis East Tuesday night at 7.
** Frontier, also of Kern County, improved to 2-0 with an 8-1 win over Madera South. Frontier has given up 4 runs.
** A Kern County team last won the Classic in 1984 when North did so under the great coach Tony Silver. His son, Cy, now coaches the Stars.
** Memorial becomes first team to 3-0 with10-1 thrashing of Yosemite behind Curtis McKeighan’s six-hitter. Better for the Panthers, they’ve given up only 4 runs in the tournament, which goes first to fewest runs allowed as a tiebreaker when three or more teams tie for best records after regular four-game phase. But Memorial, ranked 10th in the section, faces stiff challenge in No. 8 Liberty-Bakersfield Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Euless Park.
